Blissful Seaside Lounging at the Podstine Hotel in Hvar
The Adriatic Sea surrounding the island of Hvar, Croatia is gorgeous and wonderful to swim in. Getting into the water or lying out beside it…not so much. This is because the beaches of the Croatian islands are pebbly and can be painful to walk on. It’s also not so comfortable to lay a towel down and enjoy the sun next to the water either. Which is why the setup of the seaside area of Podstine Hotel in Hvar is perfect.
Podstine Hotel is situated on the edge of a gradually sloping hill on the southwestern coast of Hvar, about a 15 minute walk from Hvar Town. Its outdoor area has a secluded feel and is made of a number of stone terraces that are placed down the side of the hill leading from the restaurant and bar patio to the ocean.
The terraces have beach chair lounges on them plus some comfortable bean bag style chairs you can lie on. The stone terrace at the bottom of the hill is adjacent to the water and the loungers on this level usually go the fastest — nab one if you’re looking for a tan or easy access to the water.
From this bottom ledge, you have direct access to the water via a ladder – or you can just jump in. This means no having to carefully and painfully navigate over pebbly rocks to access the clear, buoyant (it is very salty) Adriatic Sea.
There is also a bridge leading out to some rocks jutting up from the sea, which is a relaxing place to spend some time sitting on the rocks or jumping off of them. This bridge also works well for an impromptu photo shoot.
When you’re done playing in the ocean, you can find a lounge chair beneath the sun or under the shade of a tree and order some lunch or drinks. Podstine Hotel bar servers come around the beach area to take orders and will bring them right to you and charge them to your room. In addition to alcoholic drinks, they have an array of health-conscious smoothies that are really good.
There’s a lot to see on the island of Hvar, but if you’re staying at Podstine Hotel I’m willing to bet you’ll have a hard time tearing yourself away from Podstine’s sea access, just as I did!
I was provided a complimentary stay during my time at Podstine Hotel, but — as always — all reviews and opinions are completely my own.
